Devlog pt.1 - editing videos and making pictures

Hello everyone, this is part 1 of my devlog, when I tell you what I have done this week. First thing that you probably notice is the look of my video. Not a fan of talking heads, so I will try to make videos with cartoon chars and memes. This char is from Sinty studios simple pack.  And yes that background is because of  Zero Punctuation.

In the same vein, I bought a new mic. Sure it is the cheapest one, but better than a phone mic that was used before. Still not sure how long this weblog thing will continue, but right now I have determination for that. Maybe gift myself a decent mic when I release a certain count of videos, like 20 or 50? That sounds like a good idea!

The sound from the microphone is better, but still not good.

Luckily I found a good guide on how to tweak audio in Audacity, which yielded good results, but I spent all evening learning audio things.

And now the most important part- what have I done this week? Have to say that most of the work was done on the weekend, as I have a full time job. But on Saturday I worked on my match3 game and it can be said that it looks almost like an MVP (minus settings window). Now I can explore what I need to do, to put my game into  Google Play Store, at least in early access. Also Valentine’s day is coming, I should try to monetize on that!

Besides I played with 1 bit pixel art and created some pictures.there are one with the well, and one with castle. Obviously, my favorite is the second one with the castle.

Also worked on my illustrator skills, got a course and did my first homework, hopefully more to come.

Ok and now I decided that in my devlogs I need to have part when I talk about various gamedev related things. And this weekI want to talk about mobile game marketing resources- there are very few of them, contrary to indie game marketing ones where every indie gamedev youtuber  gives you advice on it.

As far as I have read, every mobile app marketing plan that I see revolves around store page optimization- make a good looking video, make a good description and put lots of good keywords. Also heard that naming your game names similar to popular games helps, for example candy, coin, rush, kingdom etc. So I named my game candy blitz, like Candy crush and bejeweled blitz. Let's see how it goes.

Also these guides mention getting celebrities like PieDiePie to promote your game, but then you already have a marketing department and dont need such guides.

Of course, make lots of ads with fake gameplay and other shady things that mobile games are famous for, but I dont have the money or will to do that.

I guess that should be my steps for next week- step up my video editing skills and make a good video trailer and description. Probably will ask friends to help and proof-read.
